About

11949 is the library of women’s writings from Africa and the black world.
Why 1949? It is the year of the big march of women in Côte d’Ivoire against the colonial administration, first in August and in December.

If you would like to know more, we recommend the excellent book, La marche des femmes sur Grand Bassam (in French) by Dr. Henriette Dagri Diabaté.

1949: The library of women’s writings from Africa and the black world was born on March 05th, 2020 but due to the pandemic, we closed our doors the following week to reopen on May 27th, 2020.
